Day in the Life of a Program Manager

Meet Mario Alessandrini.  Mario started at Netfor in June 2020 as our program manager, guiding his team to provide the best service possible day in and day out.

Mario has been a huge asset to the daily success of Netfor.  For him to really be successful, he has to maintain the direction of a large team ranging from sales to client success.

While doing this is no simple task, he found some time to share with us what he does, day in and day out.

What do you do at Netfor and in what circumstance would I come to you for something?

I’m a Program Manager working into Business Line Manager – Field Services. One of the main items you would come to me with is questions or requests regarding a field service request.  I help work with issues that the client is experiencing and assist with providing resolutions. I have been in field services for over 13 years and understand it’s important to get the job done right on time the first time. I provide guidance to my team, things to look for when assigning the right field engineer, and steps to have a successful troubleshoot/install.

What led you to this career as a Program Manager?

This career just fell in my lap one day out of college when I went to a job interview in Sister Bay, WI.  I actually was going there with the intention of not taking the job due to where it was located.  However, when I arrived, the team, the environment, the director, among other things changed my mind.  I have loved what I do ever since.

What energizes you at work? / What Drains you at work?

Energize: Multiple items get me energized, such as when I see the team working as one and helping each other (Team Work).  Another is when clients report positive feedback regarding the work that was done at their location.  It shows we are doing our jobs and making sure each and every job is being done correctly.

Drains: The only thing I can think of that drains me are large projects that need to be done in a short period of time.  Lots of planning, scheduling, and meetings go into each and every project.  I always want to make sure projects go smoothly and correctly but can be draining when they are rushed.  Doesn’t mean we will not succeed, just means a lot more effort needs to be put in, in a short period of time.

What is one thing you are trying to make a habit of and why?

One habit that I try to make is being available 99% of the time.  I want to be available not only for our clients but for my team.  Being able to help on the dime, helps resolve or get through issues faster.  I may not have all the answers but I can help find them or direct who we need to talk to.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekends?

I dab in a little bit of everything.  Whether it be spending time with my beautiful wife, 2 kids, 4 dogs, and 2 cats (yes we are crazy), woodworking, carpentry, boating, camping, hunting, gaming, or just hanging with family and friends.  The list goes on and on.

What is one hobby you would love to get into and why?

I really haven’t given it much thought as if it’s something I have not done before, I will try it.  If I enjoyed it, I will keep doing it.  One thing that comes to mind is maybe skiing or snowboarding since I live 3 miles from a ski hill.
